Skull Finishing
Nature’s Image provides a professional bone and skull cleaning service. All skulls are cleaned using the dermisted beetle method. Far superior to boiling, which results in weakend bone and renders the natural oils and fats into bone, yellowing it over time. Boiling also increases shrinkage. Our skulls are then fully degreased and whitened. Bleach is never used in order to avoid brittle, chalky bone as it is de-calcified. Instead we use an industrial strength peroxide. Lastly, skulls are sealed with a matte sealer for a natural texure. Finished pieces can be mounted on wood plaques if desired. All prices are for cleaning only, call for pricing on plaques.
