Birds

Birds include artificial bills in some cases to decrease shrinkage and extend the life of the mount. Feet are injected with an epoxy resin to reduce shrinkage. Skins are cleaned extremely well, degreased and tumbled in corn cob grit. The result is very clean shiny plumage. Detailed airbrushing is done on feet and bill.

Birds require special attention to attain that “alive” look and capture the birds beauty. Anatomical accuracy is essential to any mount and especially with birds.

Nature’s Image can mount your bird in any desired position. Prices include driftwood. For an additional cost they can be upgraded to a variety of attractive habitat scenes or bases.

Field Care

Carry birds by the feet to avoid damaging feathers. Game vests (and dogs!) can crush valuable plummage. Gently blot blood off of feathers with a wet rag, place cotton or paper towel in the mouth to absorb any blood that may leak out. Freeze as soon as possible. After freezing, place birds in a amall box inside the freezer to help avoid damage. Turkeys should be taken to the taxidermist immediately or frozen whole. Never attemp to skin or gut a turkey.
